Mr. Maloney was seeking assistance in communicating with contractors in our industry about the importance of using licensed hazardous material handlers and the criminal consequences of being caught violating the law.

The association deferred to experts in the field and Joshua Bigelow, President of J&R Environmental, was our point of contact with Mr. Maloney.  Education is the message that the county and our association feels is most appropriate and effective at this time and to that end, we will be publishing additional materials in the coming weeks, including the story of a sting operation in Santa Clara County by the EPA, that Mr. Maloney provided Josh.

Some members have already been fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for removing and disposing of hazards by unlicensed contractors.  Don't make the same mistake.  Going forward, J&R Environmental will be working closely with Mr. Maloney to ensure the word gets out about compliance with the CA law.  Many thanks to Josh for taking lead on this very important issue.

Re: CA gets tough on illegal hazards removal

It is great to see NAMFS passing along this type of info to the contractors. Years ago when the hazard issue first came up a couple of our contractors got stopped at the dump for having toothpaste, toilet bowl cleaner and Windex on their trailer. Long gone are the days of just paint and oil being a problem. It's important to study up on your local laws and follow them closely so as not to lose your livelihood in a blink of an eye.

Re: CA gets tough on illegal hazards removal

There have been a few blog articles on this issue as well as email blasts and Industry News entries on the Home Page. The hope being that our members take time to read these communications that are being provided to them.
